August 22, 2018
These three phrases describe our first three months back in Uganda. June was a month for just putting our house back in order after being away for a whole year. I was so amazed that as we plugged things in, like the fridge and freezer, they actually worked. Then in July we worked on immigration things, (and even this week I was working on the final leg of all of that), but after that we focused on making memories with our oldest son, Andrew, who returned to the States at the end of July. He is at our sending church in Florida, doing his senior year of high school at their Christian Academy.
Then came August, my vision month. My goal was to seek God’s vision for what I should be doing in the ministry this term. Through meetings with my students and two pastors’ conferences, the Lord has really answered that prayer. The goals for the next 3 years is as follows:
1. Spend more time with the pastors and leaders in our Bible institute. Help to push some of these men to finish before I leave.
2. Have special meetings of a “Core Group” of leaders in the three Bible institutes that I have been teaching in. They need to go deeper in the Word so they will be better teachers, and they need the practical tools for organizing and running the Bible institutes.
3. Invest in projects that will help the pastors and ministries to be sustainable and to be more suitable for the needs of the ministries.
4. To do more evangelistic outreaches in ours, and the surrounding districts.
In Ugandan culture, burials are one of the biggest gatherings of the family and community, and it therefore becomes a platform for politicians to give their speeches. Though it is sad to see them take advantage of such a solemn occasion, the acceptance of political speeches also preps the crowd for whatever the preacher might say at the end. However, most of the ministers who preach at these events are either gospel-illiterate pastors or Muslim imams who pray for the souls of the dead and give the crowd a false hope. This burial was for one of our church member’s brothers, and I was therefore asked to preach upon arrival, (“In season, out of season”). I had the opportunity to bring the gospel to more than 150 people, and our church people passed out tracts as I did also. God really brought a spirit of seriousness upon both nominal Christians and Muslims alike as I preached the gospel message.
Please pray for fruit of God’s life out of this exercise of death.
Thank you,
Matt and Sherri Winkler
We are thankful and feel privileged to encourage senior citizens with Saturday afternoon Worship Services.
It is our desire to present the Gospel to further God's Kingdom by handing out tracts with the simple plan of salvation.
John 3:16-18 KJV (16)"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
(17) For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
(18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
Romans 5:8 KJV "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 3:23 KJV "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
Romans 6:23 KJV "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Hebrews 9:22 KJV "...and without shedding of blood is no remission." (forgiveness)
Ephesians 1:7 KJV "In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace."
Romans 10:9-10 KJV (9)"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God has raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
(10) "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:13 KJV "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Dear Jesus,
I believe that you are Emmanuel - God with us.
I know I am a sinner and have earned "death" - eternal separation from God.
I believe you died for me on the cross, you were buried, then rose again on the third day defeating Satan and breaking the chains that bind me to my sin and eternal death in Hell.
Jesus, I confess and repent - turning away from my sins, as I turn to you to save me from my sin.
Thank you, Jesus, for saving my eternal soul and preparing a home for me in Heaven.
Please help me to find a fellowship of believers to help me "grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen." 2 Peter 3:18 KJV
If you received Christ today we want to celebrate your eternal decision and would like to invite you to visit us to confess Jesus as Lord and follow Jesus' example in Baptism that symbolizes being buried with Christ and raised to "walk in newness of life." Romans 6:3-5 KJV
Please be in prayer and ask how God can use you to support the ministries that reaches from the corners of our communities to the ends of the globe. 2 Corinthians 9:7 KJV "Every man as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or out of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."
